Here at Straws for a Cause we are working towards changing peoples behaviour in regards to single-use plastics and how they are harming our oceans. We are aiming to encourage businesses and consumers to transition away from these harmful plastics and adopt the use of paper and reusable straws, one straw at a time. All proceeds from this month-long venture will be going to a local charity in support of ocean initiatives.
Living Oceans Society has been on the front lines, protecting Canada’s oceans since 1998. From the outset, they’ve been dedicated to improving the oceans with science-based policies that allow ocean resources to be used without being used up. From marine planning to fisheries reform; sustainable seafood to marine debris removal—Living Oceans’ campaigners are equally at home in suits in Ottawa and gumboots on the beach. If you'd like to get involved, check out their website here.
Greenmunch was our first sponsor to assist us with making this endeavour possible. Their company provides sustainable and compostable organization and event supplies. Check out their website here.
Reusable Straws partner
We wanted to source a local manufacturer of reusable straws. That's where Zero Waste Emporium comes in. They are based out of Victoria, and provide reusable and eco-friendly products to lead a zero waste lifestyle. Keep an eye out for their new store opening up in the next couple of months! Check out what they offer here.
Student driven social cause
As all of us here at Straws for a Cause are current Commerce students at Royal Roads University, we would be remiss not to mention it. This social venture has two goals: to promote growth and real-world experience to aspiring business owners such as ourselves, and to commit to an environmental cause that all future generations can benefit from.
